Founded in 1905, Chelsea Football Club is an English professional football club based in Fulham, London. The club competes in the Premier League, the top tier of English football. Chelsea was formed in 1905 by Gus Mears and his brother Joseph. The club played its first competitive match in September 1905, a 2–1 victory over Stockport County in the Second Division. Chelsea secured promotion to the First Division in their second season and reached the FA Cup final in their fourth, where they lost to Newcastle United. Chelsea won their first major trophy in 1955, when they beat Manchester United in the FA Cup final. The club won the League Cup in 1965 and 1970, and the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup in 1971. Chelsea reached the FA Cup final again in 1972, but lost to Leeds United. The club won the FA Cup for a second time in 1997, beating Middlesbrough 2–0. Chelsea won their first Premier League title in 2005, and their second in 2006. They also won the League Cup in 2005 and 2007. In 2012, Chelsea won their first UEFA Champions League title, beating Bayern Munich 4–3 on penalties after a 1–1 draw. Chelsea reached the FA Cup final for the sixth time in 2009, but lost to Everton. The following season, the club reached the final of the League Cup, but lost to Tottenham Hotspur. In 2012–13, Chelsea won the Europa League, beating Benfica 2–1 in the final. Chelsea play their home games at Stamford Bridge, in Fulham, London. The stadium has a capacity of 41,837.
